37 weeks pregnant and this belly is getting rounder and Sprout is still kicking, but staying put. We are officially full term now, although could still have to wait another 4 or so weeks if Sprout takes his/her time. One of my girlfriends put on a Blessingway for me yesterday. It is a ceremony to celebrate motherhood and the upcoming journey of birth.
Each woman gives the mother to be a positive affirmation of her birth and becoming a mother, and gives her a bead which represents something positive. The necklace that is made from the beads is something the mother wears during labour to remind her of all the positive energy and support of her community of women. Each woman attending the blessingway also ties on a bracelet of yarn and does not cut it off until the mother to be gives birth. This way they are always thinking of the mother and her upcoming journey.
My mamma friends definitely turned out in full force!
As a special bonus, I got henna done on my belly which turned out beautifully!
These days we are working on our swaddling skills and looking into elimination communication. So much to learn!
Rob was curious as to why we needed Muslim blankets for swaddling...muslin was obviously a foreign fabric in Rob's vocabulary until recently :)

omg it's so pretty! Who ever drew that is super talented! Wish I could have been there!
ReplyDeleteAw, wish I could've been there! What's the symbol on the tree mean?
